What you need to know about Kate Sheppard

 Kate Sheppard

Kate Sheppard was a woman's rights protester. She was born in England 1847 but migrated to New Zealand in the 1860s. 

She became a woman’s right protester in the year 1893 and was one of the most prominent members of the women's suffrage movement, she was also a part of various  religions groups one of these groups were the woman’s Christian Temperance Union. She was appointed the WCTU's National Superintendent for Franchise and Legislation which she used to advance

The woman’s suffrage movement.

Kate Sheppard did a lot of things to promote the woman’s suffrage movement; one of these things was by organizing petitions as well as public meetings. She was also the editor of  the white ribbon. with her writing skills and persuasive public speaking she was able to successfully advocate women's suffrage. Because of this New Zealand became the first country to establish universal suffrage.

And then later in life she traveled to Britain to help the suffrage movement there. With her failing health she went back to New Zealand  after which

She continued to be involved in writing on women's rights though she became less politically active. She died 1934 at the age of 87 leaving no descendants.

Kate Sheppard was considered to be a very important figure in New Zealand's history. There is a memorial of her in Christchurch as well as she had replaced Queen Elizabeth the II on the front of the New Zealand ten-dollar note in 1991.

Today my class had to read a book that invovled the problems with racisim. I read a book called Railroad to Freedom. Which is about a "Railroad" made to help free slaves it was called the Underground Railroad except it wasn't really a railroad and it wasn't underground. One of the people who help escaped slaves was called Harriet Tubman's although her given name was Araminta Ross its not known when she was born as when she was born she instantly became a slave.

Why do we need school

 Why do we need school?

Why do we need school and why do we go to it? well there are some bullet points down below explaining why we need to go to school and why it is important. But first what is school well it’s something we attend to learn how to read or write or how to divide numbers if you ever need to in life. And the bullet points down below tell you some of the ways school is important. Now when do we go to School. At the ages of 5 to 16 we need to attend school if you are over those ages then you don’t have to.

• To socialise

Now let's explain more about why we need school because bullet points might not be enough.  Children need to go to school to learn and to make friends.  

Children go to school to learn. Some of the things you learn at school are important for life. So school is extremely important as school prepares you for life 

It teaches you to become a normal functioning person.

Going to school will help you get a job. You need to learn maths to become an accountant. You need to know how to spell to become a writer. You need to know how to read so you know what you're ordering at a food place or to read directions.

Going to school teaches you to socialise.  School can teach you some really good social skills. It also teaches you about physical education which is also really important. Again social skills are very important as the friendships you make when you're five you could still have those same friends when you're 25. So yes school is important as almost all the reasons explaining why school is really important have been written down here. imagine how you would be without ever attending school?

Task Description: We had to read a book called eleven it was about a girl having a misabril and emmbarrsing birthday and because of this she wished she was 102 so she could forget this moment its also about how even though we grow older there are still parts of us that are five six or four no matter what age we are.
